This sunrise walk is perfect for adventurous walkers who want a proper mountain challenge and love early starts and dramatic light. It’s ideal if you’re stepping up from lower-level walks or simply want an unforgettable dawn experience in the Brecon Beacons.
Fitness level: Comfortable walking 11 km with 750 m of ascent. Previous hill-walking experience is helpful but not essential. Not suitable for those with significant knee/ankle issues or who are uncomfortable walking in the dark for the first 30–45 minutes.

We follow the classic route from Pont Ar Daf, heading up the “motorway” path before a sharp left to climb Corn Du first. We then cross to Pen y Fan, drop down Jacob’s Ladder and climb Cribyn. After a break on the ridge we return the same way, re-visiting the two highest summits before descending.

May weather in the Beacons is usually mild but can still be cold and windy on the tops at dawn. We may start in the dark and move into bright sunshine — layers are essential. Full weather and kit guidance is provided in your Welcome Pack after booking.
