Pen Y Fan Sunrise

Sale Price: £23.00 Original Price: £47.00

Sunday 10th May 2026

Imagine starting in the dark, head torch on, climbing steadily as the sky begins to glow. Then, just as you reach the ridge, the sun crests the horizon and bathes the Brecon Beacons in golden light.

This is the Pen y Fan Sunrise Walk — a special dawn adventure that takes you over three iconic summits: Corn Du, Pen y Fan (the highest peak in South Wales at 886 m), and Cribyn.

You’ll walk the classic “motorway” route in the quiet of the early morning, stand on the roof of South Wales as the day begins, and enjoy the mountains almost entirely to yourselves. The light changes every minute, the views open up dramatically, and that first sunrise moment from high on the ridge is something you’ll never forget.

Trip Highlights

  • Watch sunrise from the Brecon Beacons ridge (weather permitting)

  • Summit three peaks in one day: Corn Du, Pen y Fan & Cribyn

  • Stand at the highest point in South Wales as the sun comes up

  • Small-group guiding

  • Magical early-morning atmosphere with very few other walkers

Fitness level: Comfortable walking 11 km with 750 m of ascent. Previous hill-walking experience is helpful but not essential. Not suitable for those with significant knee/ankle issues or who are uncomfortable walking in the dark for the first 30–45 minutes.

  • We follow the classic route from Pont Ar Daf, heading up the “motorway” path before a sharp left to climb Corn Du first. We then cross to Pen y Fan, drop down Jacob’s Ladder and climb Cribyn. After a break on the ridge we return the same way, re-visiting the two highest summits before descending.

  • May weather in the Beacons is usually mild but can still be cold and windy on the tops at dawn. We may start in the dark and move into bright sunshine — layers are essential. Full weather and kit guidance is provided in your Welcome Pack after booking.
