important safety notice:
Striding Edge is a classic but exposed Grade 1 scramble. It features a narrow, airy ridge with steep drops on both sides and includes at least one short but committing downclimb.
This route is not suitable for those with a fear of heights or limited scrambling experience. It requires good balance, focus, and confidence on exposed terrain. Weather conditions can significantly affect the difficulty — particularly wind, rain, or wet rock.
We will carry out a final assessment on the morning of the trip. If conditions are not suitable for Striding Edge, we will use an alternative route to the summit of Helvellyn.
If you are unsure whether this route is right for you, please contact us before booking.

July weather in the Lake District can be very changeable. We may experience bright sunshine, strong winds, rain, or mist on the high ground. Layers, warm clothing, and full waterproofs are essential, especially on an exposed ridge.

All trips are led by qualified and experienced guides. We carry group safety equipment and will adjust the route or plans if conditions require it. Full safety briefings are given at the start of the day. This route involves exposure and scrambling, so a good head for heights is important.
